November 29 2015

Congrats Tarah!
Congratulations to Tarah O’Sullivan who was awarded the Dublin Minor Players Player of the year at the Dublin LGFA annual awards on Saturday night in Croke Park. This award is voted by the members of the Dublin Minor panel so it’s a tremendous achievement. Well done again Tarah!

Tarah along with Ciara Crotty and Hannah O’Neill received their Leinster Minor medals on Saturday night. Sinead Goldrick, Amy Connolly, Niamh Collins, Hannah Noonan and Niamh Ryan also received their Leinster Senior Championship medals and Niamh Ryan also collected her All-Ireland U21 medal. Well done everybody!

2015 has been a very successful year for all of these players as they were all members of the club senior panel that won the Dublin Senior Championship, Division 1 League, Division 1 Cup and the Leinster Senior Championship.

U16 Division 4 Final

Best of luck to our U16 team when they play St. Anne’s in the division 4 league final on Friday night @ 8 p.m. in Boharnabrenna.

U16 Division 1 Shield Final
Commiserations to our U16 division 1 team who lost the Division 1 shield final by the narrowest of margins.  The team were leading by 2 points in the final minute of the game and were unlucky to concede a penalty which was scored and saw the girls miss out on the shield.

A.G.M.
The A.G.M. of the club will be held on Thursday December 10th at 8 p.m. in Cabinteely FC Clubhouse. All members entitled to vote at the meeting received their recommendations and nomination forms last week. Just a reminder that all completed recommendations and nominations must be returned to the club secretary – secretary@foxcabgaa.ie – by no later than 6 p.m. on Friday December 4th in order to be considered for the A.G.M.

All-Ireland Semi-Final

Commiserations to our senior team on their defeat in the All-Ireland semi-final to Donaghmoyne today.  There's no doubt that the panel and management will be disappointed with the result but looking back over the past 2 years the results that this outstanding group have achieved is unbelievable 1 Dublin Senior Championship; 2 Division 1 League titles and 2 Division 1 cup titles.  In this space of time they have only lost 2 competitive games the 2014 Dublin championship final and the 2015 All-Ireland semi-final.

I'm sure the founding fathers of the club would never have predicted such success a little over 10 years ago. So THANK YOU to the entire panel for your dedication and commitment. Thank you also to Pat, Angie, Niall, Ena, Colm and Peter for the work that went into preparing the panel.

Roll on 2016!

Christmas Social

A fantastic evening was had by all at the Christmas Social on Saturday night.  Thanks to the Lep Inn for the fantastic venue but special thanks to Denise Connor for organising the event.  Denise is a wizard when it comes to organising social functions for the club and last night was no different.  We're all looking forward to the 2016 social already :-)

All-Ireland Semi-Final

Sunday next is a historic day for the club when our senior team play in the All-Ireland semi-final for the first time.  Their opponents are Donaghmoyne of Monaghan who - apart from Carnacon from Mayo - have been the most successful club side in Ladies senior football for the past 10 years.  Since 2005 Donaghmoyne have contested 5 All-Ireland finals winning 3 and losing 2. They also lost at the semi-final stage on a few other occasions so playing in an All-Ireland semi-final is nothing new for them. The Donaghmoyne team is scattered with Monaghan senior inter-county players such as Linda Martin and Cora Cortney who both won All-Stars on Saturday night. Sharon Courtney who was awarded “The Croke Player of the Month” for October is also a key member of the Donaghmoyne team. The throw in is at 1:30 p.m. and directions to the pitch are here.  Looking forward to seeing you all there on Sunday!

Four-in-a-row for Sinead

Congratulations to Sinead Goldrick who picked up her fourth consecutive All-Star on Saturday night. This is an incredible achievement but thoroughly deserved! Well done again Sinead!

Christmas Social

Just a reminder that the Christmas Social is this Saturday night in The Lep Inn and starts at 8 p.m.

Car Flags

The last batch of car flags sold out in less than a week so another order was placed and the new flags were received during the week - just in time for the Senior All-Ireland semi-final.  The cost is €10 per pair and if you'd like some, please send a mail to registrar@foxcabgaa.ie and Niall will put a pair by for you.

Leinster Champions

In March 2005 the newly formed Foxrock Cabinteely Ladies GAA club fielded their first team in a junior league game. On November 7 2015 Foxrock Cabinteely Ladies GAA club played in their second Leinster Ladies Senior Final and by 2:45 p.m. they were crowned Leinster Ladies Senior Football Champions for the first time!  Mountmellick Sarsfields from Laois – who have dominated Laois and Leinster ladies football for almost three years – were the opponents. The FoxCab ladies took all that was thrown at them and coped admirably and concentrated on keeping the ball moving.  After 8 minutes they were 2 points to 1 up. A few minutes later Sarsfield’s Clare Conlon got a yellow card and FoxCab took advantage of the extra player and scored 6 unanswered points to put them 8 points to 1 up with 25 minutes of the first half gone.  The sides swapped a couple of points each before half time and FoxCab went in at the break leading by 10 points to 3.

Sarsfields weren’t going to surrender their title that easily and they came out in the second half with all guns blazing but some terrific defending from FoxCab prevented them from scoring. FoxCab weathered the storm and put some lovely moves together and with 25 minutes of the second half gone they led by 1-11 to 0-5. Sarsfields kept plugging away and scored 1-2 but it just wasn’t enough to deny FoxCab their first ever Leinster Senior Football Championship. Niamh Collins was the deserving winner of “Player of the March” and there was thunderous shouting when Fiona Claffey received the Leinster Cup from Leinster Ladies GAA President, Finbarr O’Driscoll.  Congrats to the 30 players and well done to the management team of Pat, Angie, Niall, Ena, Colm and Peter on a job well done!

U13 Division 2 Shield

Well done to the U13 team who beat Ballinteer St. John’s in the division 2 shield final on Saturday afternoon. It was a fantastic display from everybody and a thoroughly deserved victory.

Leinster Final

All roads lead to Clane GAA on Saturday next for the Leinster Senior Ladies Club Final when our senior team take on Mountmellick Sarsfields of Laois.  Mountmellick have just completed the 3-in-a-row of Laois Senior Championships and are also going for their third Leinster Championship in a row.  We all know the effort that it takes to win 1 county championship but to win 3 titles in a row takes something special and that is obviously something that Mountmellick possess in abundance.  If you add in the Leinster Championship wins - and the invaluable experience that this provides players - it gives you an idea of the mammoth task that our ladies face on Saturday.  The game starts at 1 p.m. and it’d be great to see as many members as possible at the game.  Click here for directions to the pitch.

Championship Weekend

Last weekend the club hosted, and participated, in the U13 championship.  Having scored 2 early goals, our division 4 team were unlucky to lose to Garristown. Our division 2 team were due to play Ballinteer St. John’s but the referee sustained an injury on the way to game so it’s being re-fixed for a later date.  The feedback from all participating clubs was very positive so well done to Gordon Bell and his team on a job well done.

On Sunday the U16 team came out second best to Naomh Barrog in the division 3 shield final.  The team put in a terrific performance but just fell short on the day.  Well done to everybody involved.
