E.G.M.

An E.G.M. will be held at the clubhouse Thursday April 28th at 8 p.m., to ratify our new constitution. All club members who are entitled to vote at the E.G.M. would have received an email last week with a copy of the proposed new constitution. Sincere thanks to Paul Ryan (chair), Derek McArdle and Paul Tonge for their tireless efforts to deliver on this project.

Following the E.G.M., we propose to appoint 2 sub-groups within the club. The remit of the first sub-group will be to oversee Fundraising/Grants application and sponsorship for the club. The second group will be tasked with investigating and developing a plan regarding Facilities development and strategic planning for the club. A small number of members have already indicated their willingness to become involved and for this we are grateful.

We are a small, proud club, and your expertise may not be in coaching, or team management. However, we know that our members have a multitude of talents/expertise in other areas which could be a huge benefit with assisting in the future development of our club.  For all our sakes, but particularly those of our daughters who benefit so significantly from being part of the Foxrock Cabinteely family, please consider becoming involved, rather than leaving everything to the same dedicated core of volunteers within our club.

Recruitment drive

While our Academy numbers are growing week on week, the future growth of the club is dependent on recruiting and retaining players.  Over the past few weeks the club has – in conjunction with our partner schools - embarked on another recruitment drive and this proving to be a huge success.  Sincere thanks to all schools for their assistance with this. Pictured below is the display board that was used in Johnstown Girls school. Thanks to Mrs. Caroline Quinn of Principal of Johnstown Girls National School for allowing this to be displayed in the school but particular thanks to David O’Connor who did all the leg-work in getting this set up.  By all accounts, the PowerPoint presentation went down a treat with all the girls in Johnstown!

U10 match report

On Saturday 23/04 FoxCab U10s hosted a team from Kilmacud and one from Shankill on a dry and sunny afternoon in Kilbogget Park.

Two teams of 11 represented FoxCab, each playing a very strong and skillful Kilmacud outfit and a determined Shankill team.  The matches were played in good spirits and were enjoyed by all with special mention from Shankill regarding FoxCab's blocking skills. The outstanding player of the afternoon was Eavan Bresnan who displayed exceptional skill, determination and stamina in both of her games. Emily Jane Bell made some notable solo runs scoring against the run of play and Thea Green and Lucy Campbell both put on great displays of footballing skill.

Many thanks to all of the parents who helped set up the pitches and collect the gear after the matches.

All-Ireland Basketball success

Congratulations to club U16 player Fiona O'Grady who won the All-Ireland Club Championship Basketball championship in Waterford last weekend with her club, DCU Mercy.  The team went unbeaten over the weekend, winning 6 games in total.  Fiona’s winning streak is continuing with our own U16 footballers who are now just 1 game away from winning the division 1 league.

Ladies National League Semi-Final

Commiserations to Sinead Goldrick, Niamh Collins, Amy Connolly, Amy Ring, Niamh Ryan the Dublin Ladies senior team who were beaten by Cork in the national league semi-final on Sunday. With the inter-county championship just around the corner, there's no doubt that these 2 teams will meet again.

Thank you
The G4M team would like to sincerely thank all club members who supported their Table Quiz on Thursday night. A great night was had by all and members are already looking forward to the next quiz!

HEC All-Star for Niamh Collins
Congratulations to Niamh Collins who was selected at Centre Half Forward on the Ladies Higher Education Colleges All-Star team that was announced earlier this evening. Niamh, along with Niamh Ryan, was part of the UCD team that won the O'Connor Cup in March for the first time in 10 years.

Congrats also to the 5 other UCD players - Ciara McDermott, Deirdre Foley, Ciara Murphy, Nicola Ward and Roisin Curran - who were also selected.

Inter-County Update

Congrats to the Dublin U14’s and U16’s who both had big wins over the weekend. Commiserations to the Dublin senior team who lost to Galway in the National Football League. All is not though as they still have a chance of qualifying for the semi-final based on score differences.

U10 Match Report
A mix of FoxCab U9s and U10s welcomed Shankill GAA to Kilbogget Park on Saturday 09/04 for a two-game friendly match. Shankill were represented by girls from U9 through to U12 to form one team of 11 players. Because of the larger FoxCab numbers the balance of our girls played between themselves while each of two twenty minutes’ matches against Shankill were played. Yet again FoxCab put on an excellent display of teamwork and passing to edge ahead of a strong and determined Shankill team.

Many thanks to all the parents who showed up early to set out the pitches before the game and then help get everything back to the containers after the game.

U9 Match Report
The U9s played two wet and very muddy matches against Naomh Olaf on Sunday 3rd April. The girls were tenacious and fought hard to keep the ball and to gain it back. They are working well at keeping their positions/ shape and taking their scores.

Thanks to Padraig Nolan (U10 manager) and Michelle Colgan (U9 manager) for submitting these reports. I’m sure club members would love to read more match reports from ALL teams in the club so teams are encouraged to send a few words to foxcabgaapro@outlook.ie for inclusion in the weekly notes – hint hint mentors!!

Leinster Ladies Gaelic Games Event Management Programme 2006
The Event Management Programme is open to those aged 16 to 22 years and is designed to give this group the skills to be able to plan, organise and run an U10 club blitz and coaching day for clubs from throughout Leinster. During the two days the participants will achieve their FUNdamentals coaching and Grab Your Whistle GO GAMES refereeing qualification. They will also take a module on Event Management which will assist them in organising and running an U10 Club Blitz to take place in June. This is a great opportunity for any girl within the association to gain these qualifications and also provide them with an insight into what it takes to run competitions and blitzes. Targeting the 16-22 age group provides some girls with an outlet to move into if they no longer wish to play themselves and also works to prevent the drop off seen at this age. Click here for more details about the programme.

Dublin Féile 2016
Another Féile weekend has come and gone - as has the wind and rain - and, as usual, Foxrock Cabinteely teams continue to excel in this competition. This year we had teams in Division 2 and Division 5.

Our Division 5 team were based in St. Anne’s Boharnabreena and were in the same group as St. Anne’s, Ballyboden B, Parnell’s, St. Mary’s Saggart and Templeogue Synge Street. In their first game they played St. Anne’s and after a thrilling game, the girls lost by the narrowest of margins on a final score of St. Anne’s 1-2 Foxrock Cabinteely 1-1. Next up was seasoned Féile experts Ballyboden. The girls put the loss to St. Anne’s behind them and played some lovely football and won by 1-2 to 1-0. Parnell’s were next and the team caused the upset of day and won on a score-line of 1-2 to 0-2. They narrowly lost their last 2 games to St. Mary’s and Templeogue but the 2 earlier victories ensured qualification for the semi-final.

St. Anne’s were the opponents in the semi-final but our girls just fell short and lost by 0-5 to 0-1. While it’s disappointing to lose in the semi-final, each and every girl on the panel can be very proud of their performance on the day. The majority of these girls will be eligible for Féile next year and they will have learned a lot from the weekend. The panel was: Kate Cowman, Naoise Curry, Megan Dempsey, Amy Dent, Rebecca Duffy, Sadbh Duffy, Emily Foster-Ryan, Ada Greene, Isabelle Kiely, Emma McGovern, Grace Power, Alannah Walshe, Alice Walsh, Sinead Flannery, Aoife Mangan, Lauren Walshe, Ella O’Donoghue, Tara Walshe, Emma Rowley, Solen O’Neill, Lucy Hendrick, Rachel Kenny, Aoife Kelly and Sinead Kelly. The team management team was: David Kiely, Ronan Ryan, Linzi Simpson, Mags Walshe, Donal Curry and Bernard Walsh.

The smiling panel are pictured here following their loss in the semi-final.

“Dublin Féile Division 2 Champions” – that’s what we can call this group of girls following their terrific performance in Division 2 over the weekend. The team were based in Thomas Davis and were in the same group as Thomas Davis, Beann Eadair and St. Sylvester’s. They played hosts Thomas Davis in their first game. This was a tough opener for girls as Thomas Davis have 4 players on the Dublin U14 panel and they led by 1-2 to 0-2 at half time. However, the girls played the sort of football that’s associated with all Foxrock Cabinteely teams and turned in a magnificent performance to win by 1-5 to 1-2. Next up was another tough assignment against Beann Eadair. The teams played each other in the division 2 league in mid-March which the Howth girls won by 1 point. Our girls got revenge for that defeat and won by 1 point on a final score of Foxrock Cabinteely 1-2 Beann Eadair 1-1 and ensured qualification for the semi-final. Their third game against St. Sylvester’s would determine whether they topped the group or not. After a very close game, they won by 3-4 to 3-2.

Clontarf were the opponents in the semi-final and were the “form” team coming into Féile as they topped the Division 2 league having won their first 3 games. They brought that form with them into the semi-final and were leading by 0-5 to 1-0 at half time. The girls didn’t panic though. They kept their focus and turned in a fantastic second half performance and won by 2-1 to 0-6.

The final was against St. Oliver Plunket’s and was originally scheduled for St. Peregrine’s with a noon throw-in. The game got switched to St. Brigid’s on Sunday morning due to the poor condition of the pitch in St. Peregrine’s. It took the girls a while to settle into the final and they trailed at half-time by 1-3 to 0-3. They played their best football of the weekend in the second half and they scored 1-3 without conceding anything and ended up winning on the final score-line of Foxrock Cabinteely 1-6 St. Oliver Plunket’s 1-3. It was a fantastic journey over the weekend and they were worthy winners having played 5 games and won all 5.

The panel was: Aoibhinn Hanney, Eve Moloney, Ali McCarthy, Sadhbh Lowry, Eva Gilory, Aisling O’Kelly, Ella McCabmridge, Niamh O’Brien, Sarah Dillon (Captain), Saoirse Moloney, Ava Egan, Emma Flatman, Amy Mahon, Ciara McGoldrick, Kate O’Callaghan, Caitlin Walsh, Jennifer Hamill, Ella O’Donnell, Gila Martin, Ciara Mahon, Lauren O’Halloran, Orlaigh O’Kelly, Orla O’Brien. The team was managed by Mick Egan, Niall O’Kelly, Joanne Moloney, Marc Lowry and Karen Moloney.

Pictures from the day are available here. We’re still uploading more so come back regularly to view the updates.

Apart from training hard for the Féile, the panel and management have also been doing various fund-raising efforts to help them fund their Féile gear. While the fund-raising was effective and successful, all involved would like to acknowledge the donations from Hunters Estate Agents, Roadstone, ISS Services and The Druids Chair.

It should be pointed out too that this is the fifth year in a row that we have had teams playing in a Féile final. In 2012, 2013 and 2014 we had teams in the Division 1 final - which we also won, last year we had a team in the Division 5 final and this year we were in the Division 2 final.
